I was so thrilled to see this feature and thought Jen's comments were right on. I've heard from a number of top riders it takes a while to get a mare "on your side" but once the relationship gels she'll run longer and harder than a stallion or gelding (cases-in-point: Mike Huber's Gold Chip and Hawley's Gin n Juice).

Took some time with the start & stop created by Jen's pregnancy (and trying to come back before her own conditioning was back - Xena's a freight train xc) but happy to see the partnership beginning to form. If they have an uninterrupted year this is going to be VERY interesting to watch - and brother Harry w/b looking over his shoulder!

Congratulations! It's wonderful to see a Trakehner in the spotlight!

Love both photos used in this part of the article. From Jen's comments she really understands this mare; it will be fun watching their relationship come together. Mares are a more delicate partnership dance and having worked with Xena for her first 3yrs I can really see her beginning to trust in the partnership w/Jen. This weekend was a perfect example: Xena quit listening @ a couple of SJ fences but was obviously back on the same page today jumping an excellent clear round xc. Jen showed great restraint (and true professionalism) not riding for time over ground that hard (why risk down time from sore or bruised hooves when their goal is the CCI* in April?).

I love the photo's too...I just wish the one trot/dressage pic was actually focused on Xena and not the horse riding in the warm up in the background
